玉米淀粉餐具主要分两种，看材质说明，一种是淀粉基，淀粉的主要来源是玉米，所以有时也叫玉米淀粉基，其实是淀粉和传统石油基PP等的混合塑料，国外叫生物基。是可以通过淀粉的生物降解而致使整个材料物理性能崩溃，但崩溃后的石油基PP还是不可降解的。对比传统的餐具是比较环保，成本也差不多。

另一种是PLA聚乳酸，1吨的聚乳酸是用3吨的玉米淀粉提取转化出来的，工艺流程复杂，所以也比较高，这种是完全可降解的。但是纯PLA是不耐高温的，所以市场上的完全降解餐具大多是改性PLA做的，也是添加完全生物降解的石油基PBAT等其他材料的。如果宣传完全降解，生物基部分和石油基部分都必须是完全可降解的。

This kind of PLA is completely degradable. But pure PLA is not resistant to high temperature, so most of the fully degradable tableware on the market is made of modified PLA, which is also added with other materials such as petroleum-based PBAT which is completely biodegradable. If the propaganda is completely degradable, both the bio-based and petroleum-based parts must be completely degradable.

严格意义上说，淀粉基混合PP那种从整体看不能称为可降解，或者部分可降解，因为整体放在堆肥环境中式没法降解的，只有分离出来才可以。欧洲已经不用降解，完全降解来描述材质，用可堆肥来说明，因为可堆肥对降解的时间，降解后的颗粒大小，降解后成分对植物生长的影响都进行限定，来保证材质的性。
